Revealing Ashford

Revealing Ashford is an exciting new initiative which will help drive a positive change in the local arts scene and bring significant developments on programming of the arts by supporting artists and arts organisations to take to the streets, open up locations for artists and stake a claim and live up to it. There are a series of cultural events that will be happening over the forthcoming months, and two of these will be Revealing the Woodland and Revealing the International.

Revealing the woodland

Can't see the woods for the trees
, a town wide installation that grows and evolves with representations of trees appearing almost overnight. Ashford was historically known as "Essetesford" which is believed to mean "ash trees growing near a ford". This work, invites the woodland to repopulate the town once more. Trees will appear over the period May – July 2011 and culminate in a major installation at a site to be revealed. The growth of the woods can be followed, by visiting the online map which will be updated as each tree is revealed at another venue and the map can be used to take a "woodland walk" through the town until the end of July.
